Craftsman

Craftsman style is just as the name implies: a design that reflects handmade charm created at the hands of an experienced maker (craftsman). Gaining popularity during the arts-and-crafts movement at the beginning of the 20th century, these homes are cozy and warm, highlighted by thick, stained mouldings and accents.

Modern craftsman design also includes painted casing and built-ins, so in addition to oak, cherry and walnut, primed poplar is a popular choice. Most interiors feature hardwood flooring and wainscot with flat panels and straight lines.

Dark hardwood tones and simple lines are accented by natural light, allowing the Shaker + Craftsman design to exude a handcrafted feel when compared to other types of mass-produced, contemporary elements.
