Victorian
Victorian interior design originated (and became popular) in the 19th century. If you’re looking for large bay windows, wainscot, detailed window treatments or mouldings that are stained dark (or painted with color), this is the design style for you.
Victorian architecture is widely recognized for unique crown moulding details, carved furniture, gallery walls with picture frame wainscot and parquet hardwood flooring. Common wood species include mahogany, known for its fine grain and rich hue; walnut, favored for its depth and durability; and oak, commonly used for robust flooring and furniture.
Victorian design is characterized by deep, vibrant colors (like burgundy, forest green and navy) and heavy textiles (think velvet). Don’t be afraid to consider wall coverings, either. Intricate wallpaper and layered draperies have a way of tying everything together!
